Yeyengo was composed about 30 years ago by Salif Jobarteh, a kora player from Casamance. It’s in a special tuning called tomora and is based on the dance rhythms of the Jola who form a large part of the Casamance population. Kausu played a solo version on their Tanante album; here’s the duo arrangement they play live. With its abrupt stops, ringing bass notes and imitation of the tuned Jola drums, Kausu’s Yeyengo has made him famous throughout Casamance.
this is one of the most beautiful collections of music I've heard in a very long time. every song draws your attention - don't plan on doing anything else while you listen. more please 🙏 kimmcb
