about

One of the great Mandinka heroes is Tiramakhan, a 13th century general who helped the Mandinka establish one of West Africa’s most powerful kingdoms. This is a lively Gambian version of an old song from Mali in praise of the families who claim descendancy from Tiramakhan. Dembo also makes a personal dedication to his patron and close friend, Aboulaye Faal from Brikama: "Samo te kori la nungo la, Aboulaye Faal te kori la jalo la (The elephant doesn’t fail with his trunk Aboulaye Faal doesn’t fail his musicians)."
