This rocking dance tune represents the deepest end of the Casamance kora style. It borrows heavily from the dance rhythms of the Wolof and Balanta peoples and uses strumming and punchy bass notes in a special tuning. It was composed by Jali Mori Sissokho from Ziguinchor, famed for his 25-string kora. Kausu improvises the lyrics: "Dembo Konte, Jabu’s husband, father of Alaji, Adama, Fatou, Yasei, Salimata, Pa Bai; Dembo and Kausu were happy in London. Put it there, have mercy on me, don’t do this to me today at all, at all, at all, little Bintou, last Bintou!"
this is one of the most beautiful collections of music I've heard in a very long time. every song draws your attention - don't plan on doing anything else while you listen. more please 🙏 kimmcb
